Homework and Late Work

HOMEWORK AND LATE ASSIGNMENT POLICY

Purpose and Student Responsibility

Homework is an important extension of high school learning, providing:

  • Practice and drills that reinforce classroom learning.
  • Opportunities for independent study, research, and creative thinking.

Students are responsible for **all assignments**, including work missed due to absences.

Late Work and Grading Consequences

Definition of Late Work:

Assignments not submitted by the due date are considered "late work." This includes class work, projects, homework, discussions, questioning, and other activities.

DEADLINE AND PENALTY:

Students must turn in missing/late assignments/work within **five school days** from the original due date or as determined by the teacher, and a **penalty may be assigned** for work turned in after the due date.

IMMEDIATE GRADE IMPACT:

When an assignment is not submitted by the due date, it is entered into the grade book as **“missing.”** “Missing” assignments are **automatically calculated into the average as a failing grade.**

Accountability and Communication

Although teachers will make every effort to communicate with students, it is ultimately the **responsibility of the student** to know which assignments need to be completed and turned in.

Crucial Impact: Missing assignments greatly impact a student’s average and could result in the student losing the privilege to attend clubs during Eagle Impact, affect athletic eligibility/participation, etc.

Students will be allowed time to check PowerSchool weekly in classes, but all families are encouraged to develop a routine where students share grade updates with parents/guardians to provide that extra layer of support and accountability.
