Reasonable Force

AUTHORITY TO USE REASONABLE FORCE

North Carolina Law (G.S. 115C- § 390/391)

North Carolina law provides that **school personnel may use reasonable force** to control behavior or to remove a person from the scene in the following situations:

Situations Requiring Use of Force

  • 1. Quell Disturbance: To quell a disturbance threatening injury to others.
  • 2. Obtain Weapons: To obtain possession of weapons or other dangerous objects on the person or within the control of a student.
  • 3. Self-Defense: For self-defense.
  • 4. Protect Property/Persons: For the protection of persons or property.
