WCHS Library Fee Policies
Library Fee Policies & Procedures
Wilkes Central High School Media Center
WHAT library fees are charged to students?
There are NO fees for overdue/late books. If the book is returned at any point, the student will not be charged a fee.
Students WILL be charged the cost of the book for lost books.
Per WCS policy, library fees will follow students from school to school and should be collected and returned to the school at which they were accrued. For example, students who exited middle school with fees would still be responsible for paying those fees when they move up to high school. If fees are paid in cash, the high school will return those fees or lost books to the previous school.
WHEN should students pay their fees?
Overdue books are automatically marked “lost,” and students are assigned a fee after three months. However, if a student returns the book even after it is marked lost, they will no longer be charged a fee.
Students will be held accountable for paying their fees before purchasing a parking pass, purchasing a prom ticket, or receiving a diploma during their high school years. Students with extenuating circumstances should speak with the media coordinator, a school counselor, or an administrator to be considered for a waived fee.
HOW do students know if they have a library fee?
Students receive an automated email to their school email account each Monday morning listing overdue and lost books. Students will also be notified of fines before purchasing a prom ticket and throughout their senior year. Students may request a lost/overdue book report from the media coordinator at any time.
HOW can students resolve these fees?
- School Cash Online: The library catalog system, Follett Destiny, automatically integrates with School Cash Online. When students pay library fees through School Cash Online, they will be automatically resolved at the school level. This is also the easiest way to pay a fee from a previous school.
- Pay Mrs. Tedder in the office: If students do not have a School Cash Online account, they can pay Mrs. Tedder in the main office. Students must present their receipt to the media coordinator to ensure that their fee is removed from the library catalog system.
- Purchase a comparable replacement book: A comparable book must match the quality of the lost book. For example, a library-bound book could not be replaced by a paperback from Amazon. Students should seek approval from the media coordinator before moving forward with this option. If approved, students must bring the replacement book to the media coordinator to have the fee removed.
