Camp NASCAR
Navigating Automobile Safety, Collisions, And Robotics
Presented by Appalachian State University GEAR UP
Camp Goal
To increase student interest and engagement in robotics and computer science while recognizing the history of NASCAR in North Carolina.
Target Audience: Students interested in computer science and coding.
Highlights
- Instruction provided by App State Physics Faculty.
- Coding machines to complete a racing obstacle course.
- External field trip opportunity.
- Capstone competition on Day 5 in which families are invited to attend.
Day 1: 12:30pm – 4:30pm
Days 2-4: 8:30am – 4:30pm
Day 5: 8:30am – 12:30pm
Overnight: 4 breakfasts, 5 lunches, 4 dinners at the dining hall on campus.
Day Campers: 4 breakfasts and 5 lunches.
Meal cards, residence hall rooms, all materials for the competition, and travel for the field trip.
XL Twin sheets, pillow, blanket, towels, washcloths, toiletries, and suggested shower shoes.
REGISTRATION PROCESS
Registration opens March 1 at 8:00am and closes March 31 at 5:00pm.
- First come, first served basis: Just because registration is open does not mean automatic acceptance.
- Accepted campers must complete all required paperwork before May 15.
- Waitlist: Students will be notified of change in acceptance on May 18. Paperwork for these campers is due by May 30.

LEA Financial Obligations
- Travel to App State (unless provided by families for day campers).
- Stipends for Chaperones if desired.
Chaperone Requirements
- Ratio: 1 Chaperone per 10 students.
- Follow local protocols regarding mixed-gender groups.
- GEAR UP staff will be on campus to support during camp hours.

Competition and Mini-Campus Tour Experience
Family Units are invited to attend! Lunch is provided for campers. Families can purchase additional meals. Camp ends at 12:30.
