My name is Cameron Watkins and I'm a senior at Wilkes Central High School. Wilkes Central is probably the only place I really want to be. I know a lot of people like to transfer to the School of the Arts in Winston or to the School of Science and Math of Science and Math or The Early College but I just feel like this was the best all-around where you can get a little bit of each and still not have to go into one subject so hard. My name is Lainey Horton and I am in 12th grade. I think Wilkes Central is not only diverse in obviously race and ethnicity in different backgrounds but just in our student body. We have students that are cheerleaders are some that are homecoming queen homecoming king and we have anime club and Art Club and NHS there are different path ways that each student takes. My name is Katherine Chaquea and I'm a junior at Wilkes Central High. I'm a part of the AP Academy that they have here they give us the opportunity to start AP classes early normally across the state you get to start AP classes your junior year. I had the opportunity to start taking AP classes my freshman year and all the way through my junior year. Steven Roope, 12th grade The clubs and groups that we have here. We have different types of groups we do during Smart lunch. Some have become classes is now because the popularity like robotics that I'm part of. We do competitions with robots that have claws action to pick up and move stuff around objects. We have drag races. Hi I am Tate Jolly and I'm currently a junior at Wilkes High School. Teachers here are great we have a program called smart lunch. are great we have a program called smart lunch where are you now that you're struggling in a certain class or a certain topic in class and go there and during smart lunch and receive tutoring or any help that you need. My name is Andre Wilson I'm in 11th grade play defensive end little bit of offense but primarily defensive end. Here they but academics first so if you're not taking care of what you need to take care of in the classroom you most likely will not even get to play. My name is Paige price I teach Earth Environmental Science, Biology and AP Environmental Science here at Wilkes Central. We promote academic rigor and achievement by offering AP courses. We have an AP Academy at Wilkes Central and those students take AP classes from their freshman year up to their senior year and it ends with a Capstone. We also encourage students to take honors classes and we have it built into those course offerings Brandy Sappington and I'm English department chair I teach 10th 11th and 12th grade in AP English Literature and composition. Students are supported from the minute they register to become a 9th grader at Wilkes Central through our school counselors to visits from our current students who go and let the students know what to expect when they get to high school. Many of our clubs and our sports teams make visits to middle schools and elementary schools so that by the time students get to Wilkes Central they already feel as if they are part of the community. Teachers work really hard in the classroom and outside of the classroom to build relationships and those relationships are lasting. All of us can say that we have students come back and visit us and tell us thank you or ask us to read a paper they are writing in a college course and just seeing them come back gives us proof that the relationships that we built have been really strong. My name is Laura Brooks, and I teach Math I inclusion, Math I, Math I honors and AP calculus. As a teacher one of my most favorite things is to witness what all my students are doing in other classes or and their extracurricular activities related to Wilkes Central. I love going to chorus concerts hearing the band play at Pep rallies and at football games. I love going to musicals. I love seeing their artwork posted throughout the community. I I love seeing my kids in the area that they feel the strongest and most passionate in because it may not always be my classroom. Then I like to bring it back into my classroom and relate it to what I'm teaching in the math world. I think it says a lot about the school community here that all of our teachers and meet twice a week in PLCs to research the latest in education to come up with Innovative classroom practices to better engage and Empower our students. Each week we constantly researching and reflecting to make our classrooms a better place for learners. My name is Colby Shell I teach here at Wilkes Central High School I teach Math I and Math II Here at Wilkes Central, it is not, you're the parent, you're the student, this is how we're going to do things. It's let me communicate with you let me communicate with your parent and now let's all figure out what we can do to make you the best person you can possibly be not necessarily the best student you can possibly be. But if we get that personal piece and we get that relationship piece down the student part takes care of itself every single time.
