PROHIBITION OF SEXUAL HARASSMENT (TITLE IX)

Definition of Sexual Harassment

Sexual harassment includes unwelcome sexual advances (in person or sent electronically), requests for sexual favors (in person or sent electronically), and other verbal or physical conduct of a sexual nature.

Such conduct is prohibited if it has the purpose or effect of unreasonably interfering with an employee’s work or a student’s educational performance by creating an intimidating, hostile, or offensive environment.

Examples of Sexual Harassment

  • Unwelcome touching.
  • Suggestions or demands for sexual involvement or pressure for sexual activity.
  • Implied promises of preferential treatment or threats relating to sexual favors.
  • Continued or repeated offensive sexual flirtations, advances, or propositions.
  • Sexually degrading words used toward an individual or to describe an individual.
  • Suggestive objects, illustrations (pictures), or telecommunications of a sexual or threatening nature.

Procedure and Consequences

When evidence of sexual harassment is established, **Title IX procedures** as outlined in WCS Board Policy **#1720/4030/7235/7236/7237** will be followed and could include disciplinary action.

Accountability in Public Forums:

When discussing content that could be construed as offensive or sexual in nature in public, students must understand there is **no reasonable expectation of privacy,** and as such, will be held accountable for inappropriate comments/discussions that could be related to sexual harassment.
